BENIGN NEGLECT

“To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.”
North St. Louis is a product of seventy years of Disinvestment and Benign Neglect. Left alone without attention and certainly with intentional neglect, neighbors and neighborhoods predictably decline and deteriorate. When you cross the Delmar divide it becomes very apparent. Abandoned buildings, vacant lots, littered streets and sidewalks, men and women suffering from addiction, mental illness and homelessness, consume our North St. Louis community. Benign Neglect over time fosters and creates dysfunction, trauma direct and indirect, learned helplessness and chaos, which turns into multigenerational trauma.
